Located in the northern part of Koh Samui, Wat Plai Laem is a relatively new temple on Koh Samui. The temple and many colorful Buddha statues are built on the artificial lakes which look grand and magnificent. There are also stilts in the temple to pray for blessings.
This temple has two huge Buddha statues on the shore of the artificial lake. On one side, it is the Maitreya Buddha which is sitting on the lotus seat with a big waist. On the other side, it is is the 18-hand Guanyin. In the middle of the two Buddha statues, it is a temple, with the style of Indian Buddhism in the 18th century.
There are not many tourists in the temple as a whole, which is relatively quiet. The monks in the temple are Buddhists in Thailand, mostly are young believers. They are either cleaning the temples, feeding fish in artificial lakes, and living a carefree life by the lake.
There are many brightly colored fish in the artificial lake. If you donate some money in the temple in the center of the lake, you can get a pack of fish food to feed the fish.
Temples are not allowed to wear shoes when you enter into it, and men and women are not allowed to wear clothing that are too exposed. Women should not be too close to the monks and you should respect the local culture.
Wat Plai Laem has a lot of attractions, and it is not far from the Big Buddha, which is about 1 km away, and it is about 3.4 km from Samui Airport, and about 5.8 km from Chaweng Beach, so if you rent a motorcycle or take the self-driving, it is very convenient. If you take a taxi from the airport, it will take about 300 baht.
There is no need for tickets. Because several attractions are built on the lake, so you can walk in the center of the lake, and you will feel the scenery is very charming there.
